Mokena Mokeka

Mokena Makeka a Partner and Co-Founder at Axum. He is currently serving as Special Advisor to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at The Cooper Union and is also a partner affiliate at Axum working at the intersection of climate positive urbanism and related ecologies. A passionate and transdisciplinary teacher, his expertise covers infrastructure, and institutional change management strategies. He led the international award winning architectural and urban planning firm Makeka Design Lab/Works. Mokena was also one of five global advisors to the Climate Smart Forest Economy program, with his expertise touching on landscape, design and innovation strategy, afforestation, combatting soil erosion, and sustainable farming design etc. He is particularly concerned about the positive role that infrastructure (hard/digital/social) can play in economic, spatial, and ecological justice. Mokena was raised in Maseru, Lesotho and New York, USA and is an accomplished architect, artist, creative, curator, global leader, scholar, speaker, urbanist. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cape Town and executive leadership credentials from Harvard Kennedy School and Oxford University, respectively.
